New for 2024, I invite you to spend a year with me – and a small cohort of like-minded photographers - at the beautiful Falconhurst Estate in Kent, exploring the changing landscape from one month to the next. This is the first time I’m offering an extended year-long workshop series, and I’m so excited for this opportunity to truly connect with nature and immerse ourselves in the seasons, taking time to notice and appreciate the seasonal shifts.

Falconhurst is a welcoming family-run farming estate founded in 1852. Standing proudly in the High Weald of Kent, an Area of Outstanding natural beauty, the estate is in the most beautiful piece of undulating, unspoilt countryside, feeling incredibly peaceful and remote despite being less than an hour away from central London.

With far-reaching views across the Ashdown Forest, the mature gardens at Falconhurst have everything a photographer could want - deciduous woodland, formal cut flower garden and a vegetable garden, an abundance of wild flowers and some truly remarkable specimen trees including a stunning Japanese maple not to mention a lily pond and a larger lake. Set against the backdrop of a historic house, the ruins of a former wing of the main house still remain.

This year long workshop will be broken down into 12 one day visits (normally a Monday), when we will have access to all the areas of interest and surprise that Falconhurst offers. Each month will feature a theme for the session that will be used as a starting point for your images, which you are encouraged to interpret in whatever way resonates most with you.

Photography is only half of the session, though! After lunch, I will guide you through adding images into a folded or stitched book so that at the end of each session you have a tangible reminder of the day.

Printing and bookbinding are very close to my heart as I believe they are the natural and most reflective way to share photography, people take their time looking at hand bound books, they enjoy the experience of leafing through the pages as much as you did putting them together.

The brief for each session will be based around a seasonal observation that will allow you to explore with curiosity the whole cycle of nature. Starting in January as winter sets in and the land appears ago rest, through to the rebirth of the spring and the fullness of summer to quiet letting go of autumn, you will get to witness the delicate and subtle changes in one of the most beautiful private estates in Kent.

Limited to just ten places this will be an intimate and supportive series of workshops that, over the course of the year, will build into a beautiful personal library of hand stitched books.

Our final session of the year will include making a covered box/sleeve for your books so that you can display them or just keep them safe. A light seasonal lunch will be provided as will all book making materials.

Your investment for the year is £1152 per year – that’s just £96 per full day session. To make this more affordable, I’m delighted to offer installment options. Please email paul@discoverstill.com to arrange.

FAQ’s

What happens if I can’t make a session?

I will arrange a follow up session if you can’t make the initial session.

I’m Vegan - will my diet be taken into account?

Yes, all dietary needs will be willingly catered for.

I can’t afford to pay the whole fee in one go

Not a problem! An initial deposit of £300 will be taken to secure your place, and a payment plan worked out with you. Please email paul@discoverstill.com to arrange.

I only take pictures on my phone - is that ok?

Yes! The workshop is open to photographers of all levels. I don’t mind whether you use a phone or a professional level camera; whether you are a beginner or an expert.

I struggle walking - can I still come?

Falconhurst is mostly gravel paths and lawns, apart from the woodland area - you won’t need to climb fences and can access most areas without steps, although the levels do slop in places.
