The experience
Between the bustling towns of Marazion and Porthleven lies a place which asks you to slow down and truly see. Prussia Cove is part of Cornwall that most don’t travel to. Steeped in folklore and tales of the legendary 18th century smuggler, John Carter – a romantic kind of mystery permeates the untamed landscape. A series of enchanting coves – Bessy’s, King’s and Piskies – provide an untouched coastline that feel blissfully private and intimate, offering a variety of landscapes including tumbledown fisherman’s huts, rambling paths and areas of temperate rainforest. A stunning location for my final photographic workshop in Cornwall, providing a visual treasure hunt for you to explore slowly.
One of the reasons I am drawn to Prussia Cove is that there are no iconic images associated with the landscape. Does this mean that there’s nothing to see? Absolutely not; there is more to photograph here than you can possibly capture within five days – but the absence of famous images leaves you free to discover and express the details which hold your attention.
For photographers, Prussia Cove is a masterclass in composition and storytelling. The small scale of the coves allows you to isolate and focus on the smallest details which others might miss, creating imagery which is both personal and profound. Whether you are drawn to wide, sweeping panoramas or a more intimate, abstract focus, the landscape provides an abundance of visual opportunities. Experiment with long exposure, blur the crashing waves into an ethereal mist, or use the dramatic shadows of the cliffs to add depth to your narrative.
The light here is a gift to the creative eye – especially so at dawn and dusk when it softens the landscape to a painters palette of gold, blue and green. Even on a stormy day, the crashing wildness of the ocean is a magnificent sight to behold, set against the ancient and textured surfaces of the granite cliffs. This is a space of ccaptivating contrasts; the rugged and the gentle, the powerful and the serene. The weather and ever changing tides guarantee that no two visits are ever the same, presenting an opportunity to create the unique view you discover in this dynamic location.
I encourage you to take a moment to experience the atmosphere here; to feel the sea breeze on your skin, the stones beneath your feet. Listen to the rhythm of the waves and distant call of a gull. In this pause you will discover a deeper connection with the environment, infusing your images with an authentic sense of place and emotion.
I firmly believe that your work takes on deeper meaning when held in your hands as a printed image, and so we will conclude our time together by creating a handmade book of your images, allowing you to return home with a tangible reminder of your Cornwall experience and the visual treasures you discovered.
To ensure a truly personal and supportive experience, the group size is strictly limited. This allows more one to one time, dedicated feedback and personalised instruction – all without the frustration of waiting for others to get out of your frame.
And, of course, every detail is considered for your comfort. All dietary requirements are happily catered for, and while alcoholic drinks aren’t included, you’re welcome to bring your own.
I hope you’ll join me for an inspiring escape to Prussia Cove.
